The trailer for Machete, Robert Rodriguez‘s latest venture into grindhouse cinema, is finally out and it doesn’t disappoint. The pulpy action flick stars Danny Trejo in a role tailor-made for the leathery-faced, prison-tattooed actor as he faces off with Hollywood superlative, Robert De Niro. And by tailor-made, I’m assuming his tailor used an actual machete to cut the cloth and sewed it together using cat gut and an old syringe. The guy is grizzled, in case you don’t get the picture.

In fact, the cast contains a diverse combination of young mainstream stars like Jessica Alba and Michelle Rodriguez, those whose careers could probably stand a boost like Steven Seagal, Don Johnson and Cheech Marin. And of course, there’s Lindsay Lohan, who somehow manages to fit neatly into both categories.

While I’m excited to grab a seat in a run-down Hollywood theater for a midnight showing of this gritty flick, I’m a little bit sad that James Quall and David Liebehart won’t be making big screen cameos.

But then again, that’s what sequels are for!
