Pretty Flowers

Because sometimes, all I want to do is slow down and smell them. And then take a long nap. Except that I’ll probably wake up surrounded by flying monkeys.

I think I’ve had too much caffeine.

My New Canon 40D

north hollywood park 00 My New Canon 40D

Two things are going on here. One, I’m posting the very first pictures taken with my brand, spanking new digital SLR. After seeing an ad on TV over the weekend that Circuit City was going out of business and having a huge sale, Keegan and I hopped on over to the Burbank store to have a look-see. Of course, in the heat of the moment, I purchased the display model Canon 40D along with a 72mm (28 – 135mm zoom lens).

I returned home, experiencing an almost immediate bout of buyer’s remorse. The economy! Unemployment! Cost-cutting! These hobgoblins circled around my head until I reasoned with myself that in case the worst happened (somehow losing my job), I could simply sell it on eBay and recover probably most of what I’d spent. With the worst case scenario revealed as a pretty mild inconvenience at the most, I calmed down.

Second, I’m trying out a new gallery plugin I downloaded for WordPress (PictureSurf, for any fellow nerdy folks looking for one themselves) and wanted to see how well it would work on here. Here’s my first post using it, so here goes nothing!

Light Show Greetings from Dan

hi lisa Light Show Greetings from Dan

I’m such a busy, busy bee lately! Between awards shows and other events (like the Super Bowl) for work in addition personal stuff, I’ve barely found any time to blog on here lately. But I always take that as a good sign, since it means I’m too busy being away from the computer, which is a rare occurence.

However, I do have enough time to post this picture that Dan took with his new, fancy camera. Using a little keychain laser pointer, he wrote out a greeting to me this morning that put a big smile on my face.

Everyone needs to get themselves a Dan.

A Day in the Park

park north hollywood 00 A Day in the Park

Wonderfully reliable and always helpful, my neighbor Dan came to my aid in filming my video entry for “The Best Job in the World” although, bless his heart, I’m pretty sure he didn’t believe it made a lick of sense. I had the whole concept perfectly-planned in my head, but gave a fairly haphazard explanation for how exactly I wanted to put it all together. Needless to say, he was a good sport and managed to help me get all the footage I needed—and all without understanding the concept completely.

We took to the park just across the street from our apartments, behind an elementary school. It was pretty full on a late Sunday afternoon, with kids running around on the playground and pre-MLK Day parties taking place at various locales in the park. Luckily, we were able to find a quiet little corner tucked away from everyone else where we were able to record my goofiness.

And I’m about to admit something really embarrassing. I once came across some photos that Tipper Gore had taken—I can’t remember how, when or what the circumstances were—and one of them was this great self-portrait of her shadow stretching out in front of her. You could tell it had been taken just before dusk, when the sunlight is absolutely perfect and golden. So yes, this photoset is to you, former Second Lady and I apologize in advance for my explicit music collection on my iTunes.
