Hollywood Heels

Earlier this week (or last week, I can’t remember anymore) it was pouring rain and on the way  back to the office from lunch, I took a photo of this lone high-heel on the sidewalk just across the street from Amoeba Records. I tried to imagine just how defeated I would feel if I were brave enough to attempt to trek to work in high heels on a rainy day, only to have one break off and leave me stranded right at the street crossing.

I’m really hoping this is the second heel that some quick-thinking woman ripped off her shoe to even her gait after losing the first heel a few blocks back. After all, flats are coming back in a huge way.

FINALLY!

I’ve been seeing this double-decker monstrosity cruising through town on a fairly regular basis, near our offices on Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood.

But it wasn’t until yesterday that I actually had the presence of mind to quickly whip out my camera phone and snap a quick opportune photo, while it sat at a red light, fairly unobstructed from a clear view of the ever-charming, weave-and-eyeliner-wearing Brett Michaels of Poison.

I know I overuse this phrase, but really, I can now die knowing I’ve lived a happy, fulfilled life.

Sunset Obsessed

Because I’m as predictable as any other amateur photographer, you will find an abundance of sunset pictures in my collection of pictures taken. Since lamenting the fact that I don’t have a digital SLR, I’ve really put my little Canon Powershot to task, toting it around with me everywhere. It might not be as powerful of a camera, but it’s certainly convenient, as I can stick it in my back pocket in a pinch.

But yes, there’s something about the smog here that makes for some really impressive sunsets. It’s quite the tradeoff.

sunset blvd golden hour early bird 00 Look out Worm, Ive Got My Eye on You

Continuing the theme of making changes to welcome the coming of a new year, I’m going to see if I can’t turn myself into an early bird in the upcoming weeks. For a couple of months when I was heavy into the running, I was getting up at the crack of dawn to meet up with my running buddy and neighbor Mauricio to make the trek up to Bronson Canyon.

Now, I’ve got a new go-to canyon and a new running buddy because Mauricio lives too far away at this point. However, one of the benefits of having a live-in boyfriend is getting to drag him into my self-improvement ventures.

That said, it’s a shame I can’t figure out a way to get him to aid me in my quest to stop biting my nails. Well, “aid” in a way that doesn’t include him swatting my hand any time he catches me doing it, which is what he does now.

In the face of this new undertaking, coffee will be key. Of course, that probably means a few months from now, I’ll be writing a post entitled, “Chasing the Caffeine Dragon.”

Apropos of nothing in particular, here are some pictures of a Sunset Boulevard at the “Golden Hour.”
